Most long-term care residents and staff have now been offered the Covid-19 vaccine and results are demonstrating tremendous success as long-term care Covid-19 cases are trending downward. However, “Now is the time to strengthen our infection prevention vigilance; not to ease up on it,” urges Heather Hutson, RN, IP-BC, AMS Chief Infection Control Officer.
In addition to how to strengthen infection prevention programs in your post-vaccine facility, the presentation will also educate on the following topics:

  • What’s next?  A discussion on the potential federal support for nursing homes and our seniors throughout 2021 and beyond;

  • Proactive infection prevention and control strategies to reduce risks and improve census;

  • Lessons learned from virtual infection prevention patient rounding (a case study);

  • Prioritizing your infection prevention and control strategies post-vaccine;

  • Antibiotics and MDROs: A medical director hits the alarm bell; and

  • Round two staff and resident vaccination strategies and how to prepare.

“We have been observing staff letting their guard down a bit too much,” said Hutson. “Additionally, some of our facilities are relaxing important protocols like screening visitors and we’re also seeing those ‘other’ infections, including influenza, re-emerge in some of our homes.  We’ve seen a big sigh of relief from a hugely successful vaccination campaign – and now we need to get back to work to better protect ourselves and our seniors not just from COVID-19, but all infections.”
