REGIONAL INFECTION PREVENTIONIST

Overarching Mission: Promoting the safety of long-term care (LTC) residents in skilled nursing facilities (SNF) through the implementation of evidence-based infection prevention and control (IPC) practices.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)  licensed in their state of residency;

  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience; with IPC responsibilities and SNF experience as a clinician for 3+ years;

  • Ability to provide both on-site and remote consultation to assigned SNFs;

  • Successful completion of the CDC TRAIN Nursing Home Infection Preventionist training curriculum within 30 days of hire;

  • Have an up to date knowledge of the CMS survey process and federal and state regulations.

 

Scope of work: 

In collaboration with the SNF designated Infection Preventionist:

  • Provide education on the AMS program and promote education of staff on other infection prevention topics via onsite training, in-services and/or webinars;

  • Provide consultation on IPC issues in conjunction with facility administration as required;

  • Assist with development/revision of a facility IPC risk assessment to identify priority areas for program improvement on an annual basis;

  • Complete an annual IPC assessment tool created for SNFs by CDC to identify strengths and areas for improvement of the facility’s program;

  • Assist with the collection and analysis of quarterly viral and bacterial respiratory pathogen screening and monthly infection surveillance data based on facility methodology and criteria for healthcare-associated infections; 

  • Assist with quarterly environmental rounds using a standardized tool and monitoring strategy;

  • Assist with evaluation of products, devices or equipment related to IPC;

  • Attend QAPI meetings of the assigned facilities as requested by the SNF IP;

  • Provide a semi-annual report to facility administrators of completed consultations/educational sessions and data analysis for quarterly screenings;

  • Be available to servicing facilities up to 16 hours monthly/ as needed.

 

Reporting:

This position reports directly to the Chief Infection and Control Officer who will provide a performance evaluation on an annual basis.
